My first question was based on the teacher, so I asked him if the English teacher teaches well; I mean, if he provides the necessary material and uses the right methodology to teach English to the course. His answer was that the teacher's class is monotonous. The teacher always enters the classroom, tells them to be quiet and starts writing on the board. He finds it boring, so he barely pays attention. This issue is one of the main problems in education because most of the teachers do not motivate their students to collaborate and pay attention in class. He said that when they are too noisy, the teachers yells at them and asks them to be quiet again because otherwise, he would leave the classroom. This type o threat is not so useful since students are not motivated by the teacher.
Another question was about delinquency. I asked him if any of his classmates is a gangbanger or related to a gang. His answer was positive. Three of his classmates are active gangbangers, and they are always teasing others and even asking them for money to "protect" them. He told me that the teacher does nothing to avoid that awkward situation, and just ignores them. These are hard times in our country, and I guess that the teacher would not like to have any problem with these students. He also expressed that he is fearful because he cannot defend himself from the bullying by their part. If he does, they might do something to him. This has made him think of changing school because as we know, our safety is important. Another problem is the lack of activities from the teacher because he always does the same. He makes them write, but does not explain to them.

Unfortunatelly, this story is happening through the whole country. We can read or wacth this type of stories in newspapers and T.V.
ResponderEliminarIt is difficult to take some actions against these issues, but we can try to educate in the best way and try to apply more dinamism to our classes. Monotony is an inspiration killer.
That is what I thought, but we still need to do even more of what we are doing as teachers. This is a nationwide problem, and I hope it can be fixed. Thank you for your comment :)
ResponderEliminarIt might not sound so likeable; sadly, these problems are for real; it is what we live. According to what you've written, it can easily be seen that there's no good classroom management nor good methodology. Motivation is not going well there, and, as we know, motivation is for us as fuel is for the vehicles. As teachers, we know those two points are elemental at the present time. There's no excuse to omit those two elements. Regarding delinquency, it's very little what we can do; it is something which concerns to the whole community. A matter of a society as such.
ResponderEliminarWhat if we start teaching values withouth making students feel we are preaching them. It comes to my mind that through some class activities we can hit the target. We do not have to necessarily teach a moral values class; instead, let´s find out how to reach their souls and minds.
ResponderEliminarIt is really sad when we realize that these terrible situations are OUR REALITY, I totally agree with teacher Aida when she says that we should reach ss souls and minds, but at the same time I consider that values are a solid platform that will help you in the future to respect your limits and to respect the others in order to live in harmony, and maybe we will not change the world, but we can change our relationships with our family, friends, and the people that is important for us!!! ;)
ResponderEliminarGustavo, this is no joke! I truly believe you can become "The minister of Education" of our country and change things radically for a better future, for our kid's sake. i LIKE the way you think and write.
ResponderEliminarKeep it up my friend!
I agree with teacher Aida because we can preach our students with our example not just with explanation, activities, and games. I can assure this is true since I got open doors at Centro Escolar Medina when I did my practice there. I tried to include moral values in my lessons and behavior as I notice students' bad attitude and possible delinquency problems, so I was asked like three or four times : you are christian, right? I took advantage of the situation to invite them to chrch, and I propose the principal to teach them a moral values class weekly and she accepted; therefore, I told the leaders in my church and they are considering the chance to do it.
ResponderEliminarOf course we can do something about it, we can be an example to them, we can show them where to go for help, and we can pray that God change their lives because in the end, He is the only one who changes lives.
